What is touch as it relates to the field of Infant Massage Therapy?
Touch is the very first sense to appear in utero, and is central to the rest of our senses. It is the sense which is most developed at birth, and is our very first form of communication. All of our other senses depend upon touch for valuable sensory information.
As human beings, we thrive on touch. Healthy, nurturing touch meets a child’s need for physical contact, affection, security, stimulation and movement.
Touch is critical for healthy development. The abundance or absence of touch we receive in our childhood shapes our emotional balance, physiological well being and our capacity to lead a normal and healthy life.
Infant Massage provides the parent/caregiver with the opportunity to communicate love, comfort, care and support for their baby through the power of touch.
The idea of touch is very simple, yet so powerful in what it conveys, your love, caring and attention. Nurturing touch, in effect, provides a foundation of stability and attachment helping a child grow up healthy and happy.
Who can participate in Infant Massage?
Infant massage can be learned by anyone interested in having a loving relationship with babies or children. Adoptive parents, foster parents, and grandparents as well as aunties, uncles and other caretakers often find that massage helps them to connect with a baby. Babies or children with special needs also benefit from massage, and it helps their caretakers to communicate with them.
Classes are designed for you to come with your baby, from three weeks to pre-crawling. My hands on method ensures that you will learn the art of interactive massage to suit your baby’s individual schedule, needs and developmental level.
